Ijeoma D. Ajaero holds a PhD in Mass Communication, which was partly funded with a grant from the Intra-ACP-Transdisciplinary Training for Resource Efficiency and Climate Change Adaptation in Africa (TRECCAfrica) and TETFund under NEEDS Assessment for Staff Training and Development. She was a Visiting Research Fellow with the Demography and Population Studies Programme of the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. Presently, she is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a Postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Strategic Communication, University of Johannesburg.
She has vast experience as a researcher through her work with established scholars and organizations. She served as a Research Assistant for two Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) conducted by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture in 2013. That same year, she was a Member of the Research Team on the Stop Impunity in Nigeria (SIN) Campaign, funded by the Ford Foundation, being carried out by four NGOs in Partnership with the National Orientation Agency (NOA), the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the National Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs (NSCIA). The research methods employed for this research includes Focus Group Discussion (FGD), Survey, Key Informant Interview (KII), and field observation.
Dr. Ajaero is a member of several professional bodies including African Council for Communication Education (ACCE) and Association of Media and Communication Researchers of Nigeria (AMCRON). Her areas of research include media sociology, Gender studies, environmental and health communication, peace and conflict reporting, media ethics, political communication, human trafficking and social media. These studies, which involved the use of qualitative and quantitative methods, have been published in books and peer-reviewed journals, and have been presented at various national and international conferences.
